Meiji Asbestos Microscopes

The Meiji ML 6520 binocular  microscope complies with the test slide reading required by the Health and Safety Executive for asbestos fibre counting. These are robust industrial microscopes finished to a very high standard. The light source is a Kohler 6 volt 30 watt unit integral to the base of the microscope. This makes the microscope an ideal instrument for phase contrast applications, and the trinocular ML6520 is, we believe, the lowest price phase contrast microscope that meets the HSE specification for asbestos fibre counting that is currently available.

A particular feature is the large rectangular mechanical stage with drop down co-axial controls. The ML6520 is specifically configured to provide the specifications needed for asbestos fibre counting. This consists of  a SM Plan x10 brightfield objective and a BF achromatic positive phase contrast x40 matched with a condenser with a centerable phase annulus. x12.5 eyepieces, one with a focusing Walton and Beckett graticule, green interference filter and a centring phase telescope.

The co-axial coarse and fine focus controls have a graduation reading in 2 microns. The total focus range

covers 35mm and the movement runs in extra wide precision ball-bearing hardened steel tracks. Tension adjustment and safety auto focus stop units are fitted as standard.

The specific feature of the Meiji ML6520 series is the flexibility, both in optical performance and image capture systems. We believe that at this budget there is no other microscope that can offer the flexibility and excellent results with both phase contrast and dark ground microscopy, together with green certification for asbestos fibre counting. The microscope is also available in a trinocular form for those who wish to take still or video records.

The Meiji ML6120 binocular microscope is offered as a suitable polarising microscope used for the identification of asbestos fibres pursuant to MDHS 77 Directive.

The microscope comes specifically equipped for this purpose which reduces the cost when compared to a full polarisation specification. Each unit has SM brightfield POL objectives, rotatable stage with 360 degree graduations and Kohler illumination.

Eyepieces HWF x10 one with a focusing cross hair graticule. SM Plan strain free objectives x10 brightfield and x10 central stop dispersion staining objective (x20 and x40 can also be fitted if required). Strain free condenser with iris and filter carrier.

The Meiji x10 dispersion objective is a pre centred central stop objective for 160mm tube length microscopes with a standard RMS screw thread. Using this objective correctly allows the identification of asbestos fibres depending on the colours achieved at the perimeter of the fires that are dependant on the refractive indices between the fibre and the suspension medium.
