Quality slide filing cabinets that store slide flat, for the serious amateur microscopist, who has to combine a hobby with a home are very difficult to find these days.
Brunel Microscopes has commissioned a cabinet maker to produce a range of slide filing cabinets that would grace any home setting. They are available in either pine, oak or mahogany wood. The build quality is excellent, and they are designed to be both functional yet visually pleasing.
Irrespective of the wood finish chosen, the specification is the same. All units consist of 18 slide drawers that can accommodate four rows of 9 slides placed flat. Each drawer has a brushed chrome knob for sliding access, and the slide trays are lined with green felt. Beneath the slide drawers there is a single deeper drawer that can be used to accommodate a wide range of items associated with slide preparation and storage. The units will accommodate a total of 810 standard 3 x 1 inch microscope slides
The slide cabinets have been designed to be pieces of furniture rather than portable slide carriers and are consequently heavy, weighing 15 Kilograms.
There is a choice of real woods that includes pine, medium oak and mahogany, and the cabinets are as attractive from the rear as they are from the front. The slide drawers are restrained by a stainless steel rod that drops in place in the front of the cabinets.
